Earlier this evening, the NWS tweeted a warning to the public to be cautious of a possible scam from somebody posing as a National Weather Service employee – the NWS says.

The Chicago National Weather Service also says they will NOT be doing storm surveys tonight.
A graphic obtained from the comments section of the Chicago NWS Facebook page shows the scammer to be using social media to obtain the address people who have been affected by severe weather.
Falsely claiming to be a federal employee is a federal crime punishable by fine or prison.
“Where r u located in Lockport i’m coming to do storm survey for Chicago national weather service” the Facebook user said. “Your address pls ??”
The National Weather Service does not employ anyone by the name of this Facebook user.
“Not complying with me is not letting me do my job for the NWS” the Facebook user then said.
If you or anyone you know have been approached by people posing to be with the NWS to please contact their local law enforcement.
